Title : Blue Eye

Artist : Yeji Sim

Year : 2023

Material / Medium : Acrylics

Size of Artwork : 53*45.5cm

Award : Winner

Description of Artwork :

This piece portrays a nighttime-lit city spread across under a somewhat empty-looking eye. The blue color palette sets a somewhat gloomy atmosphere despite the beautifully lit scene underneath spilling out, somewhat like a tear. The painting represents a newcomer in a totally exotic place, in which, through many tears and looking away, they would someday be able to be a part of the beautiful city rather than always having to lie above it separately. The city relentlessly, effortlessly, and constantly changes. Living in this continual rhythm of the city, we ourselves, although slowly, feel change and adaptation every day. While observing the changes our peers and fellow people go through, we experience the change and the adaptation of the exotic day by day.

Title : Full Bloom

Artist : Ashley Park

Year : 2023

Material / Medium : Acrylic

Size of Artwork : 53x45.5

Award : Winner

Description of Artwork :

Flowers follow a life cycle, starting as seeds, blossoming into beautiful flowers, and eventually withering away. This natural phenomenon mirrors the evolving stages of human life. Inspired by the works of Frank Moth, I decided to express change in my artwork by replacing my face with a flower. In the background, I used brushstrokes to create a blurred effect, representing the unavoidable passage of time. At the center of the painting, a confined cluster of flowers are near the collar. As the viewers look upward, the flowers become open and vibrant, and eventually blooming. To add a touch of symbolism, a butterfly hovers on the fully bloomed flower. This artwork encapsulates my high school career. The restrained flowers represent my freshman year, marked by naivety, while fully blooming ones symbolize senior year, characterized by the culmination of knowledge, experience, and maturity. Through this artwork, I reflect upon change and the journey of self-discovery called high school.

Title : The authenticity of violent reality

Artist : Hyungjoon Kim

Year : 2023

Material / Medium : acryl on canvas

Size of Artwork : 35cmX45.5cm

Award : Winner

Description of Artwork :

Reality has never been so thin. Living in an age where information has never spread so quickly and lightly, how must we confront the presented reality before our eyes? Out of the many forms and natures of data we are exposed to, we never doubt or question violence. How can a man question the authenticity of a brawl or war when such extremity is being laid bare before their eyes?

Title : Blue Monkeys

Artist : Minjun Oh

Year : 2023

Material / Medium : Acrylic on Canvas

Size of Artwork : 53x45.5cm

Award : Winner

Description of Artwork :

This work is a satirical expression of a contemporary human experience in which people spend most of their time doing repetitive, robotic work in front of electronic devices. I wanted the viewers to question the implications of our digital dependence. Is our intelligence really extended by it? I used blue tones to communicate a somber ending to the continuance of blind dependence.
